United States Representative Bill Pascrell harshly criticized the events of the past weekend, when violence erupted during a white nationalist rally Charlottesville, Virginia.
Pascrell slammed hate groups like the KKK and neo-Nazi and criticized President Donald Trump’s initial reaction to the statements, which was widely seen as weak and unequivocal.
In a press conference outside Secaucus Town Hall, Pascrell said “Their beliefs are validated by the president who took white nationalism to the dance during his campaign.”
Pascrell, a Democrat, is the U.S. Representative for New Jersey’s 9th congressional district, which includes Secaucus.
White nationalists fought with counter-protestors, leading to the death of a woman when a white nationalist drove a car into a crowd.
The initial rally was organized to oppose the removal of a Confederate statue in Charlottesville.
The FBI is investigating the events and the United States Attorney General Jeff Sessions criticized the act of the white nationalist groups as “domestic terrorism.”
