The Secaucus High School volleyball team fell short of winning the State Sectional Tournament this season, falling in the semifinals to Bogota on Thursday night.
The Bucks dominated the Patriots in straight setts, 25-15, 25-9. Bogota has been Secaucus’ Achilles heel and has knocked them out of this tournament the past two years. The Patriots did not play the powerful game that their fans are used to seeing. Instead, mistakes, sloppy play and few errors from the Bucks frustrated the Pats.
The Patriots had annihilated Lincoln 25-2, 25-5 in the first round and continued in the second round when they defeated Becton 25-9 and 25-15. Their most thrilling victory was in the quarterfinals against Glen Rock. After already suffering a loss to them in the regular season, the Patriots were out to get revenge. In the first set, the Pats fell 18-25 but refused to get discouraged and stole the next two sets 27-25, 25-23.
