Secaucus police have arrested a 23-year-old Belville man in the December 26 armed robbery at a Shell gas station on Route 3 East.
The robbery occurred at the Shell station’s Food Mart at around 1:36 a.m. on December 26 as an individual previously described as a black male wearing a ski mask and gloves entered the store armed with a rifle. Police said he hit one victim over the head with the rifle and made off with money and other property from the store.
Jeffas said charges of armed robbery, four counts of aggravated assault and two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm are expected in the case.
Some of the stolen property has been recovered, but the weapon has not yet been found.
“The police kept up with the case, filed all the leads, notified surrounding agencies and thankfully, at long last, it looks like there was an arrest on it,” said Jeffas.
Mayor Mike Gonnelli noted that while multiple agencies took part in arresting two suspects in the March armed carjacking of a woman on Penhorn Avenue, the Shell station case was investigated primarily by the Secaucus Police Department’s detective bureau.
Police haven’t returned a call.
