A woman with three children was carjacked at gunpoint by a masked assailant in broad daylight on Saturday afternoon in Secaucus while parking at the Pump It Up children’s party center on Penhorn Avenue.
Secaucus Police Det. Michael Torres said both incidents are under investigation and declined to speculate whether they are related, although the suspect in the first incident was not wearing a mask and the armed thefts occurred at different times of day.
The victim Saturday had her three young children with her but there were no injuries reported, police said. A masked man brandishing a handgun approached the vehicle around 1:35 p.m. at the 301 Penhorn Avenue adddress and took the vehicle.
On Wednesday, March 14, a man driving a BMW stopped on the Maple Street ramp off of Route 3 West near Radio Avenue with the apparent belief that an individual was in distress at around 12:25 a.m., police said.
The suspect, described as possibly light-skinned, brandished a handgun and took the man’s car after he stopped.
Police are not releasing the names of the victims.
In January, a woman who left her BMW running in the parking lot of a gas station along Route 3 West in Secaucus had it stolen shortly before midnight. That followed a Christmas Eve armed robbery at the Route 3 East Shell Station.
