Ronald Manzo, the Bayonne businessman and county political operative arrested with Dennis Elwell in 2009 who later cut a deal and dropped a dime on the former Secaucus mayor, saw his sentencing postponed this week from March 26 to April 23.
Manzo admitted to taking a $10,000 bribe from a government witness to pass along to then-Secaucus Mayor Elwell in exchange for the mayor’s help with a real estate deal. He set up a meeting between Elwell and the informant at La Reggia in town that ended up on FBI surveillance tapes showed at trial.
Manzo cut a plea deal with federal authorities and testified against Elwell, who was convicted on one of three corruption charges. He faces 12-18 months in prison and $42,500 in fines.
Elwell’s sentencing was also slated for this month before it was postponed to April 12.
