Updated: 7:26PM — An afternoon brush fire blazed Sunday for more than three hours in the northeast end of town near the Mill Creek Mall and Plaza at the Meadows complexes.
Secaucus firefighters as well as units from area municipalities like Lyndhurst and Rutherford responded to the scene and large plumes of black smoke could be viewed from the Route 3 bridge and other elevated points in the area during the blaze.

A firefighter radioed at 5:14 p.m. that the brush fire had been extinguished. But a fire unit later requested two water extinguishers at 7:23 p.m. after a small fire broke out near the Harmony Early Learning Center on Park Place. That was extinguished at about 7:40 p.m.
The initial fire was believed to have been reported a few minutes past 2 p.m. Property damage was limited to some power lines, said a source.
Among the Secaucus Fire Dept. units known to be involved were Engines 1, 2 and 4, Tower 2 and Ladder 1. (Update: Engine 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 Ladder 1, Tower 2, Squad 1, Rescue 1 were on the the scene.)
Paterson Plank Road in the vicinity of the blaze was said to be “impassable” during the fire fight.

Two weeks ago, a late afternoon brush fire off of Sea View Drive kept fire units busy for hours.
