Updates about street pavings, flood prevention and other infrastructure work in and around Secaucus this week:

PAVING: While the county works on paving County Avenue, several streets in town are set to be milled and paved, as well.

On the schedule starting May 15 (in no particular order) are Helen St., Blanche St., Washington Ave, and Third Ave., and North End streets Lucht Place and Laurel Court.

Second Ward Councilman John Bueckner said the order is not set but noted the paving was planned to follow up curb and sidewalk done on the streets late last year.

Hudson County has also provided trees to be planted along County Ave. to improve the aesthetics of the well-traveled road after its paving.

Councilman Jim Clancy holds an image of the new signs.

NEW SIGNS:Drivers visiting or just passing through Secaucus will be greeted with new signs welcoming them to town, in addition to the existing blue signs that mark the boundaries.

Second Ward Councilman Jim Clancy said the town has been soliciting sponsors for the project and all signs are being paid for by the sponsors.

Six sponsors are in place and town officials hope once the signs are place more will sign on.

The red signs identify Secaucus as the “Jewel of the Meadowlands” with the an egret logo and the sponsor identified underneath.

FLOODING: County plans to revamp the St. Paul’s Pump Station which drains Penhorn Creek are progressing. First Ward Councilman Rob Costantino said bids were awarded in December and new pumps are expected to be ordered soon, opening a time frame of 12 to 14 weeks for receipt of the pumps.

He said the project will be done later this year and officials are hopefully that it will resolve flooding on Secaucus Road as drivers leave and enter town.

The council also voted to go to bids to replace the storm line on Farm Road, which affects flooding in the Farm Road-Meadow Lane-Acorn Road area. “The pipe that is there now is non-functional,” said Gonnelli.

The project is expected to cost in the $300K range.

The town has also budgeted $500K to increase the size of the line on Golden Ave., a project that is in the design stage and is expected to be conducted this year.

Gonnelli said a new storm line has already been installed on Humboldt St. and is showing positive results amid recent rains.
