The Secaucus boys and girls cross country teams earned medals at the State Sectional Championship over the weekend.
The boys were led by a third place finish from junior Dan Chinchilla, who helped the Patriots advance to the State Championship Meet with a second place finish. It is the 25th time in the program’s history that Secaucus has made the State Championship, including the seventh time in the last eight years.
Sebastian Flood finished in eighth place for Secaucus while teammate Mohammed Alobaidi placed 12th.
“We have been getting better with each race this last month,” Secaucus coach Stan Fryczynski said. “I am so very proud of what they have accomplished.”
The girls also advanced by placing fifth to reach the State Championship Meet for the eighth time in the last nine years. Kirsten Williams led the team with a 21st-place finish, just ahead of teammate Alexandra Molta.
“Very few Group 1 schools have managed to show the consistency in state sectional championship races as we have,” Fryczynski said. “It is something very special to have athletes willing to work since mid-July and remain focused to qualify for the State Championships. It isn’t easy, so I want to express my gratitude for their willingness to achieve.”
