The Secaucus High School boys cross country team placed fifth at the Hudson County Championship meet held at Stephen R. Gregg park in Bayonne on Saturday.
With the results, the squad earned county bronze medals and placed themselves among some of the best large schools in the area.
“We are simply thrilled with the way this team is churning out results,” coach Stan Fryczynski said. “This squad is establishing themselves as one of the best cross county teams in our school’s history.”
Top three across the line for the Patriots were Mohammed Alobaidi 22nd in 17:04; Dan Chinchilla 24th / 17:05, and Sebastian Flood was 31st in 17:20. Marcos Zamora ran 18:27 for 48th, Vishwa Naik 54th in 18:39, Nick Munoz was 55th in 18:42 and Dylan Mercado 60th at 19:14.
“We are going to make a serious challenge at next Saturday State Sectional Championships. We fully expect to qualify and advance to the State Group Championship Meet. We are simply running in top form right now,” Fryczynski said.
The Lady Patriots also have a chance at advancing as they bounce back from some midseason injuries and illnesses.
Captain Alex Molta and Kirsten Williams were 26th and 27th at the County Championships, respectively. Freshman Megan Williams, the recent North Hudson Freshman Girls Champion, was 15th in the County Freshman race. YuTong Li and Carmelina Sanci will round out the top five varsity heading into the State Sectional race.
