A Paterson man posed as a police officer to rob prostitutes in multiple times in Secaucus hotels in the past six months, according to the Secaucus Police Department.
Timothy Simon, 29, wore a fake badge around his neck, a jacket emblazoned with the word “Officer” and carried handcuffs. He found the women via online advertisements and used the costume to fake a bust and steal cash and valuables at five Secaucus hotels – three on Meadowlands Parkway and two at Harmon Meadow.
The robberies occurred between September of 2017 and February of 2018. Simon was arrested on February 17 by Clifton police a few days after an incident at a Harmon Meadow hotel. The badge, jacket and handcuffs were found in his car.
Simon was charged with five counts of robbery and five counts of impersonating a police officer.
