Walmart has installed two 20-foot-high automated pickup towers in its Secaucus store at Park Place.
The towers let customers who have ordered products online pickup their items without dealing with another person. They simply walk to the tower, scan their order the screen, open a door in the tower, pickup their item and leave.
The new system is part of Walmart’s strategy to take on Amazon and other online retailers that boast about their ease of ordering.
About 100 Walmarts around the United States have smaller towers, but Secaucus is the first to have two large capacity towers, which are able to hold up to 300 orders, including boxes the size of a small appliance.
