A three-mile car chase through Secaucus on Sunday left three police officers with injuries and caused significant damage to private property.
Richard Murphy, 27, of West New York, was spotted before noon driving a stolen Nissan Murano near Cedar Lane and began pursuit. Murphy tried to escape by driving the wrong way down one way streets and riding along sidewalks, striking several vehicles along the way.
According to police, Murphy nearly hit an officer directing traffic near Immaculate Conception Church and made it all the way to North Bergen, where he hit a fence, a building and a parking meter before intentionally rammed a Secaucus police car.
Murphy was apprehended after the collision and taken to Hudson County Jail. He was charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault, burglary, receiving stolen property and eluding as well as a slew of motor vehicle violations.
Three police officers were treated for minor injuries but no civilians were injured.
