A former Secaucus High School coach and teacher was charged with sexually assaulting a student at another school in the 1990s on Wednesday.
Robert Goodlin was a middle school teacher in Elizabeth when he allegedly assaulted the student from 1993 to 1998. He was arrested on Tuesday and appeared in court the following day after being charged with aggravated sexual assault of a minor, sexual assault of a minor, sexual assault by force or coercion, aggravated criminal sexual contact, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal sexual contact.
The 75-year-old Goodlin, a Paramus resident, allegedly started the abuse when the victim was only 11 years old. A second accuser has since come forward, claiming he was abused by Goodlin for three years starting in 2000.
According to Judge Brenda Coppola-Cuba, the first victim “… provided sworn statements detailing multiple acts of fellatio, masturbation and contact with his intimate parts.”
Goodlin taught industrial arts and coached track and field at Secaucus High School from 1979-1991 and worked as a substitute teacher after 2004 – one year removed from his alleged abuse of the second victim.
