State officials have approved a proposal to double the number of parking spaces at Secaucus Junction to more than 2,000.
The station currently has 1,100 parking spaces, which often fill up quickly on heavy commuter days or during large events.
Edison Parking, which owns the parking lot at the station, requested the change to the Secaucus Transit Village Redevelopment Plan in September 2015. The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority approved the request at its monthly meeting in July.
A new lot will be placed in the former location of the Goya Foods warehouse on New County Road. The new lot would use car stackers to maximize space and should be ready in the middle of 2018.
