Secaucus High School English teacher Thiago Leite was named the recipient of the New Jersey PTA Outstanding Teacher Award.
Leite received the award at the New Jersey Parent Teacher Student Association convention on March 3. He had been nominated by the Secaucus High School Parent Teacher and Student Association.
Leite has been an English teacher in the Secaucus school system for eight years and is the 2017 senior class advisor. Leite’s superiors spoke glowingly of him in an article in The Jersey Journal :
“He works extremely well with his colleagues, parents, and above all, his students. He looks for the good in all of them and finds it. He means what he says, and sets the tone to lead by example. Students see his hard work ethic and are driven to do the same.” – Secaucus High School Principal Bob Berckes.
“He doesn’t just teach a novel, or poem, or play. He uses literature as the vehicle for his students to grow academically, socially and emotionally.” – Secaucus School District English Supervisor.
