Desai had been under investigation for months after Bayonne court officials alerted Bayonne police that the prosector was receiving cash from defendants prior to court dates. The police contacted Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office’s Special Investigations Unit, which conducted the probe.

The 42-year-old Desai has been charged with second degree bribery, which has a maximum sentence of 10 years.

Secaucus mayor Michael Gonnelli told the Jersey Journal that Desai will no longer be called to fill in when the regular prosecutor is unavailable, as was his previous role.

A full report can be found on the Jersey Journal website.

  1. Denny could have used this guy when he got arrested. 500.00 dollars and Denny would have walked.

  2. “Secaucus mayor Michael Gonnelli told the Jersey Journal that Desai will no longer be called to fill in when the regular prosecutor is unavailable, as was his previous role.” —DUH!

  3. @colonelmustid… It is now beyond creepy how everything posted on this site comes back to Dennis for you. Perhaps you should see someone professionally about your fixtation. It can not be healthy.

  4. There are all kinds of negotiations taken place everyday, the question is who do they feel like picking on to take the blame. At the end of the day the one with the lower title is the one they colar. Mean while negotiations will continue and in some states its already legal. Just recently in another state, I paid for a parking ticket they told me if I plead guilty they will lower the fines for me. (SAME THING)

  5. The DPW workers [firemen] get a list from the DPW office to pick up their scrap money. Are they next?
Colonelmustid please tell us how this is Elwells fault.

  6. LONE RANGER, please read what I wrote. I never said it was Denny’s fault. What I said is, if Denny had this prosecutor he may have gotten away with accepting a bribe.

Here is a copy of the Town of Secaucus ordnance prohibiting stealing the scrap metal

  8. We went from a former substitute prosecutor getting arrested to scrap metal. Somewhere the choo choo jumped the tracks.

  9. I heard the “METAL BANDITS” are cleaning up in Secaucus, they are stealing so much scrap metal there is nothing left for the Town’s recycling truck on Thursday. The price of Metal is as high as $250.00 per ton and that money go back into the budget to offset tax increases. You should click on the following link or copy and paste in google to see what was done a few years ago and better understand what going on.

Here is an idea of a poll that Esecaucus could run in the future.

Did you know that the town sells the metal recyclables that are put at curbside for as much as $250.00 per ton and that money goes back into budget? Each week a large portion of this metal is stolen from curbside coasting the taxpayers a great deal of money. Let us know what you think should be done?

1 Only let the Towns residents steal the recyclable metal.

2 Let everyone steal the Towns recyclables.

3 Town officials should do nothing and hope the problem goes away.

4 Work with the police dept. and put a stop to the stealing of tax Dollars

  10. What a relief that this prosecutor who committed grave misconduct is arrested. At the “end of the day” I favor punishment of rogue prosecutors.
