Parent Voices Concerns Over Teacher Behavior

There was yet more drama at a Secaucus Board of Education meeting last week when John Schwartz requested the new board suspend his daughter’s fourth-grade teacher for alleged harassment.

Schwartz, who is the Secaucus recreation facility director, claims his daughter and other students were verbally harassed by the unnamed Huber Street School teacher starting last fall. The family eventually moved the daughter to Clarendon School after she was diagnosed with a case of stress-related shingles.

The concerned father reprimanded the previous board for not taking action and claims that his daughter wore a recording device for 2 1/2 days and caught examples of the abuse on tape.

The board gave no response to the allegations on the grounds that it was a personal matter.

A full report of the meeting can be found at the Hudson Reporter here.

Those poor children/child. This teacher needs to finally go. She has berated students for years. Next transfer is out the door.

I think its a shame that nothing was done. But if a child is accused of bullying, harassment the school is up in arms. They face suspension and a letter goes on their school records. The teacher should be held at a higher standard. I like how they put that this teacher is in a class that the children are a little more difficult, what should that matter. Does that give you the right to call names? So if a child in a class decided to call another child that is a little more difficult a name, that child shouldn’t be held responsible, i don’t think so. Harassment starts at the top, remember we lead by example. So the kids in that class are being led by a wonderful example. I have a child in HUBER ST. SCHOOL that is going in the fourth grade, i think i have the right not to have him in with someone like that…….

I don’t know who this teacher is, but I do know of one teacher in the Middle School who is nasty, bullies. She should be let go. Tenure is a terrible thing.

I know a handful of teachers who should be fired at huber-no one is stepping up to help those kids…… I mean seriously, what happen to being a role model???

  8. bb says:

who cares what he has done..no one seems ot be asking how this girl is doing..how hard it had to be to go to a new school in the middle of a school year has to be tough..who cares who her parent is y are we not aksing how she is

  9. Post says:

J Claney was a teacher of mine and was always a great educator and caring person. Never heard a bad thing about him.

  10. EndOfTheWorld says:

I agree Post May. I also remember that John had filed charges against Mr. Clancy. I believe it was thrown out in court.

  11. Newguy says:

After reading the complaint, the kids were called “clowns” and “knuckleheads”. That’s it???? If that caused the child to break out in a rash, what’s going to happen when she gets to later classes, college or the real world? Seems that is mild language like that causes a physical reaction they should be looking at other issues

  12. FirstStreet says:

Newguy, do you mind if I call you a clown and a knucklehead? After all, it’s no big deal, right?

  13. itsjustme says:

Newguy: it wasn’t just a rash: it was shingles. Please do some research before you deem the child’s condition as “a rash.”

  14. Newguy says:

    And that’s bullying? Get real.

As far as the issue of the Shingles, it’s caused by a virus. Stress can weaken the immune system somewhat but to say that the outbreak was caused solely by calling one a “knucklehead” is simplistic. The stress of schoolwork or any other number of factors could have brought it on.

    This is a joke.

  15. itsjustme says:

How is it correct or right for a teacher to call a pupil a knucklehead? I believe that’s what the issue is here.

  16. fbjunkie says:

@Newguy-Several children were targeted including a special needs child with a physical disability. Disgusting behavior for a teacher.
