Bartolozzi Gets 7 Years

Bartolozzi was sentenced today in Hudson County Superior Court and will appear again in court in November to determine how much money of the approximately $800K he is accused of stealing he will have to pay back.
Bartolozzi’s lawyers have contended the amount he “borrowed” was much less than $800K. A town audit in 2010 found $777K to be missing from the tax fund.
This morning’s sentencing came after several delays due an illness by one of the former tax collector’s attorneys.
Bartolozzi apologized to Secaucus residents during the appearance, according to the Record. “I hope when I have paid my debt to society, I will be able to tell them how sorry I am,” he said.
Bartolozzi, who was hospitalized in January prior to a court appearance, pleaded guilty in May to two counts of theft, admitting to writing checks to himself from a union fund and stealing cash from tax funds and a municipal employees’ union which he had served as treasurer.
He was suspended from the $85K-a-year tax collector post by the town in 2009 and fired after the guilty plea in May.

I think the amount that has to be paid back is obvious… $777,000 plus at least 2.6% APR.
Therefore if he “Borrowed” the money 5 years ago, he would owe $883,430.37 with traditional compounding.
Can’t wait till he say’s who else took some of the money. Wonder who that could be?
Do not ever write out a check for your taxes to anyone except to the Town of Secaucus and never pay with cash. On the union fund you should always have more than one signature for withdrawals on such funds. This is another sad chapter for Secaucus.
