Water Restrictions Imposed
Aug 20th, 2010 | By Greg Hazley | Category: On tapUnited Water on Thursday implemented mandatory lawn watering restrictions for Secaucus and five other Hudson County communities.
The company said a lack of rain, extreme temperatures and low reservoir levels brought on the move.
“Conservation is essential because water storage levels are declining and hot, dry weather patterns are expected to continue,” said VP and general manager James Glozzy.
Under the rules, customers with an address ending in an odd digit are permitted to water their lawns on odd days of the month between the hours of 7 a.m. and 10 a.m., and between 7 p.mm. and 10 p.m. The same follows for even-number addresses on even-number days.
Violations of the schedule will result in water shutoffs, the company said, pending notification of the customer.
Golf courses (tee boxes and greens), new sod or seed lawns, and nurseries are exempt.
North Bergen, Union City, Weehawken, West New York and Guttenberg are also under the restrictions.
Earlier this month, the state asked Hudson residents to voluntarily conserve water but as conditions remained dry and hot the mandatory rules have been put in place.
