$300K Coke Bust
Aug 26th, 2010 | By Greg Hazley | Category: On tapAn anonymous tip to Bergen County authorities led to the discovery of $300,000 worth of cocaine in a hidden compartment of a Ford F-350 truck which rolled into Secaucus from Florida early Saturday morning, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said Thursday.
Six individuals were arrested on drug charges connected to a scheme to sell the cocaine in North Bergen, authorities said.
Acting on an tip, Bergen County authorities working with the Leonia Police Dept. put surveillance on addresses in Leonia, Edgewater and Secaucus and found that two individuals from Leonia and North Bergen had arranged for a large shipment of cocaine from Florida via a truck with a trap door compartment. The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office was among the law enforcement agencies working the case.
Six kilograms of suspected cocaine were found (a street value of $300K) along with $23K in cash in the F-350 truck, which was also seized when it reached Secaucus and had been used for at least one drug run from Florida in the past.
All six suspects were charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a quantity over five ounces, a first-degree crime.
Those arrested in Secaucus included Leonidas Enrique Bustos, 31, of Tampa; Daisy Acosta, 34, of Tampa; Paul Pratt, 28, of Wimauma, Fla.; Teri Lynn Cooper, 21, of Riverview, Fla..
Jose Tavarez, 32, of Leonia, NJ; and Leonardo Perez, 28, of North Bergen, were arrested in North Bergen.
