Kids these days……
When you were in high school how many people drank at a party.I am sure the numbers are high.Kids being kids.
There is an element in our schools drinking. Dismissing it as what every kid does or what we did when we were that age isn’t acceptable. When the police make a big arrest like this, they send a message and that’s a good thing. Putting their names in the paper and making noise about it is smart, because it’s a deterrent. If it saves one kid from getting loaded an crashing a car, then it’s worth it. My hat’s off to the cops.
Maybe this is the “suffering” that everyone is talking about due to the BOE budget cuts.
What I wonder is, are the parents who own/rent/live in the house where this big party took place being brought up on charges? Or can they be?
I agreed that getting the police involved is a good thing when underage drinking is happening, however to make it right, they would have to be vigilant and bust every party taking place in town. Even if that means arresting their own kids/family members etc. If the adolescent throwing the party is 18, parents are not held responsible for the underage drinking. If the adolescent is not 18 yet, parents WILL be held responsible.
It is a shame that most of these kids are good kids who made a stupid choice.
Heard it was Echeverry household
DaveP,
I agree completely. Kids being kids is a ridiculous statement. While these kids are underage, the are all driving age and how many of them would have gotten into cars that night and possibly killed themselves or others. It sickens me to think of an innocent person being killed by an irresponsible “kid” who was thinking it would be cool to spend a night getting drunk and not of the consequences. Kudos to the Secaucus Police Dept.
Teddy,
And I bet you are going to pin the underage drinking on the teachers at SHS?? No??
Len,
Hmmm, do I detect a hint of sarcasm. What does this have to do with teachers? Do we have a bit of a chip on our shoulder?
Kids nowadays need to learn the basic values that can be taught within the family
This is being blown out of proportion. Sure what they did was wrong, but the names shouldn’t have been posted in the paper. And having a drink isn’t blasphemy nor murder so maybe a couple of you should calm down because kids aren’t the only ones who make mistakes when they drink.
KG you are the boy. Totally agree
Look you wouldnt want your kids names in the paper if they got caught. I know my kids probably drink and yours probably do to and if they made this mistake then how bad would you feel? i think its worse enough that they got caught. They don’t need this publicity in the paper. I dont think they should be drinking, but come on it’s not like we didnt do it when we were younger. Go easy on them.
Everyone drinks in high school, it’s not the biggest problem in the world, 99% of kids dont get caught. Only the idiots get caught.
The ones who are caught MUST be made an example of, though. Or else other kids will see that it’s no big deal and proceed to do dumber and dumber things.
Make an example of the idiots that get caught. And the problem stays manageable.
I think the whole thing was blown completely out of proportion. Everyone makes mistakes. The police were also very rude, using cursing as intimidation, terrible. It only shows they’re lack of class, and composure. They certainly did not do their job there.
This is an old issue but a local drinking ordinance was passed a little while after this event that officials say will give police more flexibility to charge youths under 21 with a local violation for drinking alcohol underage, instead of taking it to the county. Yes over 80% of HS students drink alcohol before graduating. But this is a big problem because often it leads to even more dangerous activities like driving intoxicated.
The problem here was that there were too many people at this party which lead to too much noise. You get an angry neighbor who issues a complaint to the police station and this is the result of that.
I admit I blew things out of proportion and shouldn’t have called these kids idiots. Therefore I am the Idiot
Get your own name, pal. Those kids are still very much IDIOTS.
Voice of reason why are you talking to yourself? and I agree with what was said before, total lack of class on the police department’s part. I recently came across this page and remember when it happened. I was on the force some time ago and let me tell you, back then we had respect. Now it’s just a bunch of power hungry men trying to screw over the kids of this generation. That’s the future. Let them be.
All these parents should ask the Mayor why his stepson’s name never made the paper when he was involved in a hit and run late one night in Secaucus. Read it in the Jersey Journal. I guess he has an “IN” with the local reporters. If it’s good for one, it should be good for all.
Anthony, this article is about underage drinking. Your little man- crush on Mike is getting weird.
Voice of Reason, you are a Fool.
