Secaucus Not in TJ Plans
Mar 1st, 2010 | By Greg Hazley | Category: On tap, Secaucus, StoresTown officials and residents have said the grocery chain Trader Joe’s is considering a Secaucus location, but it doesn’t appear to be on the company’s immediate radar.
“At this time, it is not in our 2 year plan of opening a location in Secaucus, NJ,” Alison Mochizuki, director of national publicity for the company, told eSecaucus.com.
Wal-Mart is slated to open a supermarket in town this spring, however, giving Secaucus a full grocery store for the first time since the 2008 closing of Stop & Shop. Acme closed on Sept. 30, ’04.

Exactly, I have to drive to Edgewater shop at TJ and Whole Foods. I contacted TJ about 1.5 years ago when Linens and Things went out. That would have been perfect for them. Oh well!
No one will come and compete with Walmart. Hartz will not rent to any other food chain. When we decided WalMart was good for the town we also decided we would have no other food chain. It is something we all have to live with good or bad!! I know everyone will try but it wont happen!
123skiddoo, Sorry but putting a supermarket out by the plaza mall or anywhere that isnt the center of town pretty much is a waste. I mean if thats the case Ill just go to Super Walmart. The whole point is to have a market in an accessible location to residents, that includes commuters without cars and seniors. If not it doesnt solve our problem.
Dear Trader Joes,
PLEASE COME to Secaucus!!!
Secaucus isnt a good fit for TJ, they would never put a store here.
According to Pat St. John, Trader Joe’s vice president for marketing,
the company’s target customer is a cost-conscious, health-conscious
label-reader who is not tied to national brand names. Company surveys
have found that many of them are well-traveled and looking to
replicate foods they have enjoyed elsewhere.
good read on Walmart’s grocery efforts…competing with high end markets like Whole Foods….check it….

But I can’t stand Wal-Mart!! The parking is a mess, the store is overly crowded, and waiting on line takes longer than actually shopping there… I know the prices are super low but I’m just super sad I’ll still have to trek to Edgewater for TJ’s…
I just make sure I go during non-peak hours. 5pm is a good time. I wonder if the store will be 24 hour?
TJ’s would be awesome, but they are obviously not coming.
There is some construction going on where the Stop n Shop used to be. I wonder what that’s going to be. Anyone know?
Voice, Hartz still lists the Stop n Shop property for lease so not sure there’s anything going in yet. Will check. Here’s the link: http://www.hartzmountain.com/availabilities/available.asp?S=New%20Jersey&T=Retail&C=any&F1=25000&F2=75000
