  1. Oh boy. I hope some of the esecaucus readers don’t have a problem with this event. We may get lots of “out-of-towners” coming to this…

And speaking of “out-of-towners”, I’m still waiting for someone to tell me how they can tell which Walmart shoppers don’t live in town by just looking at them…

  2. DLo,

I have no problem with the auto show. The expo center was built for events like this.

I believe I’ve already answered your question regarding out of towners in the past.

It’s easy to recognize. It’s called “street sense” and “life experience”. Have you ever been in a place or situation where you felt like you did’nt belong? Or were looked at as an outsider? Have you ever had people stare at you because they thought you did’nt belong?

That’s exactly how I often feel when I’ve been at the Secaucus Walmart and other areas of Harmon Meadow on a busy weekend. Of course like in the past people will come here and call me a racist even though I never mentioned one particular item that would profile anyone. In fact I often feel as though I’m the one who is discriminated against while there.

I’m actually very proud of the “street sense” I possess. It has served me well in life and helped me in many situations.

  3. Have you never shopped at a store outside Secaucus?

    I don’t understand this dislike for “out-of-towners”

This town has a population under 20k that swells to like 50k+ everyday from people working/shopping here.

What’s wrong with that? Should we build a wall around town with a moat outside of it and not let anyone without a Secaucus address in?

Our businesses do well on the money from out-of-towners. Our hotels, restaurants, stores are there not for us, but for out-of-towners.

If you want to live in a secluded town, move to the midwest or something, where there is 30 miles between town centers.

  4. oh, and there is a latino, indian, asian, and african american population in Secaucus. Not every minority comes from WNY or JC or Union City, you know…..

  5. And your point is VOR???

Are you profiling? I certainly did’nt.

Why does everyone assume this is all about color or race? I shop in Paramus. Do I believe most shoppers there are from Paramus? No! Do I feel like an outsider there even though I technically am? No.

Did I ever expect Walmart or any other store to support itself just by Secaucus shoppers? No.

Secaucus has welcomed industry and business with open arms. We have given up many luxuries like quiet streets and privacy all for the benefit of a better tax rate. A benefit that is soon to be negated due to incompetence and corruption.

I welcome any shopper who wishes to come to Secaucus for our awesome shopping, restaurants, and entertainment. I just hope they are bringing money in order to utilize these nice things.

    Read the police blotter weekly.

  6. I don’t think people in Secaucus have problems with any one group, but if you go to Walmart you can see just how dirty the parking lot is and how over crowded the store is. Can the workers please speak to me in English and not assume I can understand their native language. I just think the Walmart spokesman should demand cleanliness and safety as the 1st priorities, but it is obvious that that is not the case. They can create more jobs if someone would just clean the place every month or so. The parking lot is an eyesore and I don’t care who is causing this. Everytime I go there I see an altercation in the lot. Respect the town and that goes for any town you shop in!!!

  7. So what I gather from everyone who wrote here negatively on out-of-towners is that they can basically tell who aren’t Secaucus residents by the way they act. I’ve got news for all of you. Not all Secaucus residents know how to act in public either… I’m as polite as you can get (and Hispanic), yet 9 times out of 10 if I walk into a local store and say hi to the average customer, I get ignored. One time a woman literally grunted at me with a look of disgust to get by in an aisle at Marra’s instead of saying excuse me, but then excitedly said hello to the cashiers and carried a conversation. OH WELL… I guess I was labeled an “out-of-towner” by her even though I live IN town…

  8. out-of-towner = minority to a lot of these ignorant SOBs, don’t mind them.

Most old timers you talk to around this town will admit to being a bigot, some are proud.

I’m sure the woman in Marra’s just saw you as a latino and not a human being, which is why she grunted past you.

    It’s a shame, isn’t it?

  9. yeah, what can you do? I didn’t take it personally. all I can do at this point is quote Rodney King, “Can’t we all just get along?” lol
