Snow Away

Dec 29th, 2009 | By | Category: On tap

Here are a few shots of the Dec. 19 snowstorm and the Secaucus DPW in action clearing out the streets.

The DPW guys got a “thank you” from the mayor and council last week, as well as kudos on this website and elsewhere for the job they did in digging out our roads and sidewalks from the blizzard.

“They did a really good job,” said Steffens.

We were out and about in town the next morning. Nice work! The DPW spent three days on snow removal on the skinnier streets to allow parking during the holiday and to clear the catch basins to alleviate flooding during last weekend’s rain.

The first shot was after the road was plowed and people cleaning off their cars re-buried the street. Don’t do that!

  1. What are we supposed to do with the snow on our cars? Melt it?

  2. Good point DaveP

I’d also like to add some constructive criticism to this article, particularly about clearing the parking on front street so the plows had an easier time dumping 2ft of hard packed snow onto the sidewalks. I understand the need for clearing the parking, there are large buses that need to continue their routes. But the plowing of snow from the streets unto the sidewalk wasn’t exactly a great service to the residence of Front street.

Its our resposibility to clear our own sidewalks of snow and ice, this was one of the worst cases in my 25+ years in Secaucus that I remember the plows just plowing snow onto the sidewalks with total disregard for the residents who now had to shovel, instead of fluffy light snow, the hard packed snow and ice from the streets.

Maybe next snowfall we can remember that guys, thanks from all the backs on front street!!!

PS – Seriously though nice job with snow remove in the following days!

  3. I did not think the town did a good job down in the center of town. but they sure made sure the meters were cleared so the town could get money. mean while the rest of irving place was plowed in and the cars too. residents on that block had no where to put the snow and god for bid we throw it in the streets we get fined.

I agree that plaowing the area with the stores have to be plowed but residents that are old can’t shovel like other people can.

I just think that the town could have done better…..
