Blotter: Officer Assault, Burglary, DWI

Bernardo Figueroa, 38, of Jersey City, was being placed under arrest for outstanding warrants when the arresting officer was assaulted by David Salomon Astudillo Mendez, 49, of Union City. Figueroa then assaulted the officer as well and both men fled on foot before they were apprehended.
Both were charged with aggravated assault on an officer. Mendez was also charged with hindering and Figueroa was hit with charges of obstruction of justice and resisting arrest.

Mon., Dec. 21 – Two Brooklyn men were arrested on fraud and stolen property charges after trying to use fake American Express traveler’s checks at Best Buy, police said.
James Lorjust, 22, and Josue Rivera, 18, were charged with receiving stolen property, using bad checks, and hindering after police responded to the Paterson Plank Road store.
They were found to have merchandise from other stores without receipts, police said.
Sun., Dec 13 – A 19-year-old Union City woman was arrested for driving while intoxicated and other charges at 6:28 a.m. following a motor vehicle accident near the Red Roof Inn at the Meadowlands Parkway and Route 3 East ramp.
Police responded to a report of an accident and found that a vehicle driven by Jessica Urueta apparently struck a Ford F-150 pickup truck. She was charged with disregarding a red light, DWI, underage consumption of alcohol (a criminal charge), and underage driving while intoxicated.
Fri., Dec. 11 – Police are investigating a Dec. 11 burglary at China Chef on Paterson Plank Road in town.
Store personnel notified police the following morning that cash had been taken from the restaurant.

Fri., Dec. 11 – Two minors were arrested at Secaucus High School following a fight, police said.
One of the young men was charged with aggravated assault, while the another was charged with simple assault. Both were 15 years old.
Wed., Dec. 9 – Two Jersey city men were arrested after police were called by Best Buy management to report individuals selling candy on the premisis.
Kwamame Brown, 19, and Darnell Jones, 20, were charged with deviant trespass and hindering apprehension after store personnel asked them to leave the premises, where they were selling candy, police said.
The hindering charge was added after the two gave false names to police.
Wed., Dec. 9 – A 59-year-old Jersey City man was arrested for shoplifting at Home Depot.
Angel Smaniego was charged with taking an 18-volt power tool battery worth $117.48, police said.
Wed., Dec. 9 – A 34-year-old Weehawken man was arrested in the late afternoon for shoplifting at Kohl’s on Mill Creek Drive.
Ricardo Dopico was charged with stealing $593.98 in clothing and miscellaneous items, police said.
