Top 10 Complaints List
Oct 6th, 2009 | By Greg Hazley | Category: On tap, OpinioneSecaucus reader Gabby sent over her top 10 list of things that bother her about living in town.
She describes herself as “30-something,” a product of Secaucus High School and a commuter to NYC who lives in the 3rd Ward. From the looks of her list, some things are fixable, some look like they’ll never get fixed, and some are just … life.
Top 10 Things That Annoy Me
About Living in SecaucusBy Gabby
1. Going anywhere near Wal-Mart.
2. Pizza everywhere, but where’s the thin crust?
3. People who spend 15 minutes a day here trash Secaucus like they know anything about it. I’m tempted to stop helping people when they stop me every weekend on the street and ask, “Where are the outlets?”
4. It’s impossible to safely walk over Route 3 to the stores and restaurants on the other side. How about a pedestrian bridge?
5. The free “concerts” assume everyone in town is over 60.
6. Waiting in line at Red Lobster.
7. Waiting in line at CVS.
8. It doesn’t feel like Hudson County, but it doesn’t feel like Bergen either.
9. How many banks does one town need?
10. Why can’t we make left turns out of Home Depot?
Thanks, Gabby. We’re especially with you on Numbers 7 and 9.
Got a Top 10 list about Secaucus on your mind? Send it in and we’ll run it.

10: You cannot make a left turn out of Home Depot because there is this little thing called the New Jersey Turnpike which just happens to have an exit at that spot. They also have a traffic light in order to turn left. It is not very difficult to turn right and go a few hundred feet in order to make a legal u-turn onto Patterson Plank Road.
9: Because we like to spread the wealth.
8: It is Bergson County. The worst of both worlds.
7: Screw CVS you would be shopping at Marra’s if you were a true and loyal American.
6: Be happy that you can afford it. Stop the complaining. Half the world is starving.
5: We are!
4: There already is one. Just walk West when you find it cross it then walk East.
3: Just give them the wrong directions like I do.
2: You want thin crust? Master Pizza Northfield Avenue Livingston. The Best!!!
1: You think that is bad now? Just wait until the Superstore is open next year.
My List
1: People who complain about everything.
2: People who have lived here for less than 40 years who think of themselves as Secaucusites.
3: People who park on the corner at the yellow line so you can’t see what’s coming down the street.
4: Punks walking the streets late at night making noise.
5: Crossing the street in the Plaza. Impossible.
6: Turning the old library into a place that everyone cannot go into and enjoy good memories. It should have been made a social center for the old timers.
7: The speed limit on County avenue. It should be at least 40.
8: Sidewalks being replaced that were built 40 years ago when there are others in worse condition that were built during the depression.
9: The gate at Fifth and Mansfield being open to traffic on a school street at 11:45 every day of the work week when children are present.
10: Well, I’ll leave this one for a future complaint.
Those are some great ones, Snake. What is up with our sidewalks? It’s like Beirut in some places.
Every Saturday I try to get from the dry cleaner across the street to the bank and every Saturday I take my life into my hands.
11. Yuppies moving into town and thinking they own the place.
gabby you want thin crust go secaucus pizza very good and reasonable
It’s pretty well known that there are 0 decent pizza places in town. Lots of options, no quality choices.
There’s a good place in North Bergen called Trattoria La Sorrentina that does thin crust brick oven pizza. They have some really nice and fresh family style Italian food as well.
Also, there is Cafe Capri in East Rutherford that is similar to Sorrentina, but just a tad lower on the list as far as quality goes.
Thanks for the feedback! Pretty cool.
SnakeOilSam: I did grow up here so I think I can complain about a few things and know what I’m talking about! I haven’t lived her for 40 years, though so I’m sure you know a few more things than I do. I totally agree on the County Ave speed limit. It’s completely unreasonable.
Dave: I’ve also nearly been flattened on Paterson Plank Road. Usually trying to get from the Bagel Buffet lot to cross to get to the post office.
bob and voice: Thanks for the pizza recommendations! I didn’t mean to diss Plaza and Secaucus Pizza, but there is not much in the way of variety.
THINGS “I Want To Change” about SECAUCUS!
1) FREEMASONS: Think it’s about time we “kick them out for good” and build ANOTHER “VFW Hall” (maybe this time with a MERCHANT MARINE ANNEX?)
2) FLOODING OF SCHMIDT’s WOODS: Hasn’t been done in “something like” 25 years…I think THE TOWN would “benefit as a whole” if we could organize another FREEZE-OUT and FLOOD THE WOODS in the “winter months” to encourage ICE SKATING and HOCKEY.
3) BAGEL BUFFET: I don’t think it’s BIG ENOUGH. Best “vegetable cream cheese” in NEW JERSEY but I hate “waiting on line for it”…especially AFTER MASS! LOL! (not laughing “at mass” just commenting on HOW MANY “good parishoners” go there for a POST-MASS NOSH!) Should be bigger!
4) BOB EVANS/SCHLOTZKY’s: I think it’s time we got either BOB EVANS or SCHLOTZKY’s to “open up” in town…I think the VETERANS would ENJOY IT (myself included!)
5) INTERNET REGULATIONS: I think “we should really consider” switching all the computers in town to SAFE MODE…would really help “fight against piracy” and help “defeat domestic terrorism”…at least ON THE WEB! LOL! (Not “laughing at cyber crimes” just “laughing nervously” in fear of ANOTHER ATTACK).
6) NO TURN ON RED: Shouldn’t even “be an issue”…time to GET RID OF IT “for good” and get on the “right side of history!”
7) CENSORSHIP: Saw a lot of “indecent stuff” at the SECAUCUS PUBLIC LIBRARY and the FREE LITERATURE at the HAVEN SAVINGS BANK and I think it’s ABOUT TIME we “wipe the smut off those places!”
9) CLEANLINESS OF THE BEACHES/BAYS: Think we do a “good job” but not a “great job” of CLEANING UP OUR WATERWAYS! Remember when I was a child (LOL! “So long” ago!) and we used to PLAY JAI ALAI on the “muddy banks” of TROLLEY PARK! Can’t do that “anymore” lest you risk LIFE AND LIMB at the expense of some SHARDED GLASS or “hypen dermen needles” left there by THE OTHERS. Which brings me to my “final point”…
10) THE OTHERS: Time to “get rid” of them…ONE WAY OUT! LOL!
As always, “let me know” how you feel about MY PROPOSALS for a “Brand New Beginning” in SECAUCUS!

Agree with #1.
I don’t like thim crust, so I’m set.
Outlets??? You’re fifteen years too late.
Don’t like the town? Then leave.
Pedestrian bridge? Few even use the one we have.
Het!! I am over 60 but I never go. Hate hanging with old people.
Rubber fish…Never.
Never really hit a big line at CVS.
Feels like snow..how’s that?
Apparently about fifty judging by the look of it. I myself use a ATM and never set foot inside.
You can. It’s just that you most likely will run into oncoming traffic.
