Secaucus Mayor Dennis Elwell has retained Jersey City law firm Cammarata, Nulty & Garrigan in the wake of his arrest on a bribery charge last week.

“We are representing Mayor Elwell and will be making a comment [Tuesday],” CN&G partner Thomas Cammarata told eSecaucus.

Elwell has not yet said whether he will step down or fight the federal charge from the mayor’s office, but the town council is slated to meet publicly Wednesday night at 7 p.m.

Cammarata is a former Hudson County assistant prosecutor and assistant town attorney for Kearney.

The Bergen Record staked out Elwell’s Farm Road house and reported, via Elwell’s wife, that the mayor is “mulling his political future with family members, but he has not decided whether he will step down amid corruption charges.”

  1. How can he even consider not stepping down? This guy is a joke. He’s been pulling the whool over our eyes for the better part of two decades. I hope he gets hit with the max 20 years in Federal prison and $250k in fines!

  2. I also hope he gets hit with the maximum penalty but I have a feeling his corrupt friends will get him off. I also hope that at least a few more of his illegal activities are uncovered.

I like the above part about him “mulling his political future”. It should read he is “mulling his future in crime and corruption”. LOL

I sure hope he steps down on Tuesday but I was looking forward to seeing his ass get voted out this November.

  3. It is hard to take anyone seriously when they can’t even spell simple words correctly.

The press and everyone else needs to back off for a bit. Leave his family alone.

I hope Mayor Elwell hangs in there. I for one will be there to support him tomorrow.

  4. Of course you’ll be there ceejay.

You probably have one of those Elwell hand out jobs. Will you be “on the clock” while supporting him?

Whatever happens someday Dennis and those who enabled, encouraged, and knowingly stood by him will meet their maker and have to answer for their actions.

Enjoy your “I support the crook” day at work.

  5. Deejay, I also hope he hangs.

  6. ?

  7. To hell with him and his family. They’ve been living good off of the crime and corruption Elwell has been leading in this town for decades! How can anyone feel bad for this man and his family? Elected officials are voted into their positions to serve the PUBLIC, not their GREED.
