Gonnelli Out at NJMC

Gov. Jon Corzine has nominated Mauro DeGennaro for the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission slot occupied by councilman Michael Gonnelli.

rsz_corz_gonDeGennaro, who recently served as president of the Secaucus Board of Education, was announced today as a nominee by the governor’s office amid a long list of candidates for various posts.

Gonnelli is challenging Mayor Dennis Elwell this fall.

“He will be replacing me as soon as the Senate approves him,” Gonnelli said of Gennaro in a brief email to esecaucus.com.

Both Corzine and Elwell are backed by the Hudson County Democratic Organization, but it’s not clear that there was any political motivation for the change at the NJMC, which oversees zoning for 88 percent of Secaucus.

Gonnelli has served on the commission since at least 1999, when he was appointed by then-Gov. Christie Whitman.

    DeGennaro is a slimey “yes man.” Loves to kiss rear ends.

    It’s ok, Gonnelli will be mayor next year….he can only improve things…

    Get a life, VoiceofReason. Mauro has served this town selflessly and he’ll continue to do so on the Meadowlands board. You don’t do Mike any good by making dumb observtions like that.

    Knowing Mauro aka Morris personally for over 20 years, I can tell you the man serves only himself. Wake up.

    I’m not even that big a fan of Mikes as much as I am a fan of this town needing a regime change.
